Work in progress, 2026 - ongoing

In the “The Ceremony Must Be Found”, Sylvia Wynter argues that Western modernity and coloniality dominate our modes of knowledge production, replicating themselves though the advancement of science and technology. This project is an attempt to speculate on human/ more-than-human relationships that are not predicated on this singular worldview. I explore artificial intelligence through speculative design and participatory research, developing “prototypes” of alternative AI futures that are imagined from the margins.

Prototype 1: Speculative Design Workshop
This workshop was facilitated as part of my residency at A.Farm in Hồ Chí Minh City, Việt Nam. During the workshop, community members were invited to imagine a non-extractive AI future, designed from a Vietnamese perspective. Participants engaged in a speculative design process, by first playing a prompting game modeled (after Situation Lab’s “Thing from the Future”) and then sketching out a new, potential future. The aim of the workshop was to create a space for the community to rethink their relationship to the algorithmic and imagine technologies that center specific lived experiences, senses, and values.
Prototype 2: Ritual object to commune with a future AI ancestor
In the heart of Silicon Valley, a Vietnamese spirit medium performs a ritual, accidentally summoning an artificial superintelligence to inhabit her body. For a brief moment, the medium and AI speak as one.
